Enjoy this easy to make dressing on your favourite salad. It also tastes great on top of roasted veggie bowls!
This is a super tasty salad dressing that only takes a couple of minutes to come together. It uses simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand in your fridge and pantry.
I’ve often used this dressing on my “regular” salad, though I particularly enjoyed it on the roasted veggies bowls that I often make in the winter. It pairs really nicely with roasted vegetables like, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and carrots. It also compliments chick peas, feta, and a variety of grains like quinoa and brown rice. I recommend you try it!
When I make salad dressings, I always use mason jars. It makes it easy to combine ingredients, and if I have a few on the go, I can easily see which dressing is which. I have a set of reusable plastic lids that fit the standard mason jar openings, which makes them very convenient. Once we’re finished with the dressing, the jars and lids get tossed into the dishwasher. Very easy cleanup!
Let’s get to the dressing!
Honey Mustard Salad Dressing Ingredients
Olive Oil – I always have a large bottle of extra virgin olive oil in my pantry. Find one that is reasonably priced for your budget. You certainly don’t need the high-end stuff for this recipe, though quality is important. When picking out a bottle of olive oil, look for one that is stored in a dark bottle. Also, store it in a part of your kitchen where it is not exposed to additional heat, as that can quickly deteriorate the quality of it. To help with savings, I always check the unit price and keep an eye for sales, as it’s an item that I know I use a lot.
Honey Mustard – Honey mustard is a combination of sweet, tangy and creaminess… which ultimately leads to an ideal component of any salad dressing. In this particular dressing, it blends seamlessly with the olive oil and apple cider vinegar. It’s definitely a staple as a condiment in our house, and I recommend finding other ways to use it!
Apple Cider Vinegar – always great to have on hand for salad dressings. There are so many out on the market, find one that you enjoy and keep it stocked in the pantry.
Maple Syrup – Although there isn’t much used in this recipe, you’ll want to use the good stuff. If you don’t have any on hand, you could replace it with agave or honey, though it will change the taste slightly.
Lemon Juice – Just 1 tablespoon (less than half of one lemon) is all you need here! Fresh really is best in this recipe. Normally, I would recommend combining the lemon juice and apple cider vinegar, then whisking the olive oil in to emulsify it. However, I find that this particular dressing mixes smoothly when all ingredients are added to the mason jar, and that there isn’t any separation.
Salt & Pepper – the measured amounts for Kosher salt and ground pepper are guidelines. As always, feel free to season as desired!
Honey Mustard Salad Dressing Tools
Below are some kitchen tools that although they may not be required, are certainly great to have in the kitchen.
Measuring cups and spoons – this recipe uses standard measuring tools.
Mason Jar or Dressing Bottle – Mason jars are cheap and come in a variety of ideal sizes for different dressings and sauces. I use them all the time, especially since purchasing reusable lids. Far cheaper than those difficult to clean ones that are on the market. A bowl and a whisk can also do the job!
Lemon squeezer – A lemon squeezer has also become a staple cooking utensil in our house, though it has more to do with cocktails than cooking. Our household has certainly gone through a few of them, though our latest one has to be my favorite. Beyond the “squeezer”, it consists of a collector for the juice – super handy when you are measuring for an exact amount. It’s also very effective at keeping those seeds away!
